North African Ethiopian Spear 96" Long Weapon
A rare 8'long North African spear or javelin from Ethiopia with the original shaft and inlaid blade. The head blade is about 14" long by 2" widest and the socket is about 10" long. Shaft diameter is about 1", of hard wood and has great patina. This is a Coptic spear as evidenced by the metal inlay with a cross. Both head and socket are well decorated. The head is steel, with a little tarnish. The socket is bronze. It cases the shaft to give it strength. A well made long spear.

It has been suggested by knowledgeable readers that this resembles a Moros spear. That is an Islamic region of the Philippines known for their swordsmith skills, including watered steel. I found in Egerton of Tatton's "A Description of Indian and Oriental Armour", pp 96 and Plate V (next to p163), spears which appear to have similar heads. 3 of them were attributed to Singapore, at that time part of Malaya.

This is a rare 19th century weapon with its long shaft intact. Good condition. Wood at end of shaft is indented from years of griping. Be sure to see my other 8' spear with wootz pattern on the head.

While this is an extra long item, reasonable shipping can be arranged in North America.
