The Japanese go to considerable lengths to amuse their children as this print shows. A young girl is seated in a boat shaped wagon on wheels, with 2 smaller children along side. A young woman pulls the wagon while the master looks on. A 3rd adult is holding a gift box. Seal mark of artist. This is a dyptich (double print) of a cherry blossom festival celebration; about 14 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches. Very good condition with a light stain in the middle. Versatile size.

Gorgeous antique woodblock with lots of action, great for a gift. I have a number of prints from this series listed. Be sure to see them.

------------------- Note. Toyohara Chikanobu (together with Mizuno Toshikata) is generally considered to the the last in the tradition of ukiyo-e. His works encompassed a broad range, from beautiful women to fierce warriors. Chikanobu was one of the earliest to use western dyes for color, so that his colors have a certain brightness which is easy to spot.
