19th century antique famille rose wine cup with cute horses. Mark of Tongzhi. Maybe not imperial kiln, but a very nice little cup of the Tongzhi period. Very nice example of the use of abstract exaggeration in Chinese art. The Chinese wine cups and scholar objects are small but sometimes exquisitely decorated. In this case the abstract design facilitated a single brushstroke for each thick enamel color patch on the horses. The result is this bold and very engaging scene on a little cup. 同治粉彩马骏酒杯. About 2" high x 2.5" wide. Biscuit a little grey, typical of the period. No chips or cracks and very good condition. |
