The late Gene Lang of Denver, Colorado purchased this 9 7/8” wide prehistoric Indian bowl (GL595) from the Chris Robinson collection (I believe Gene told me that Robinson starred in one of the TV soaps). The bowl has been typed as a Mimbres Black-on-White dating c.975-1150AD and is attributed to the Mogollon cultural horizon. It has been glued together and has minor abrasion restoration. Though exhibiting a strong ‘polychrome’ appearance, this handsome, 7 ¼” tall, geometrically designed prehistoric Native American pot (RLK5) started off as a Mimbres black-on-white canteen dating c.975-1150AD, but when introduced into the ancient firing kiln, the black mineral paint oxidized resulting in the attractive brownish red variegations that appear in the contrasting black field. Glued together with restoration of a 4” long rim piece that was missing, and a minor amount of overpaint, this bowl is typed as a Mesa Verde Black-on-White dating c.1200-1300AD and attributed to the Anasazi cultural horizon. This impressive, 10 ½" tall, 14 ¼" wide Tularosa Black-on-White olla (GL655) was found at the Horsecamp Ruin near Quemado, New Mexico. Attributed to the Anasazi group, and dating c.1100-1250AD, it is from the collection of the late Gene Lang of Denver.
