$975.00

Measuring 9 ¾” in width and 3 5/8” tall, this intact polychrome tripod grater bowl (LLL15) was found in west Mexico in the middle 20th century. There is little evidence of use in the sharp-edged incised grater area. The burnished surface paint is strong although obvious black negative resist décor has been mostly removed. Decorated around the inside with basic geometric elements, the two opposing circular disks contain central snake-like designs. The stubby, phalliform legs are hollow and each c ...click for details

Well...almost nude! Wearing coiled headband, ear decorations and a neck collar, the impressive, 11” tall young female (RFM36) wears nothing else but a pout. The solid, hand modeled ceramic image is attributed to the Colima horizon of West Mexico dating c.300-100BC and comes from the collection of one of the founders of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Pre-Columbian Studies. In overall good condition, and an eye-catching display piece, the figure has lost its left ear ornament, has lost a bit of i ...click for details

This fascinating Pre-Columbian bead necklace (111.5HD), made up of beads found in the north coast of Peru and assembled by the Orlandini Museum that operated in Lima during the mid-20th century (their descriptive paper on others from the collection is dated August 1955), is probably Moche in origin, c.100-800AD. From the collection of Lorenzo Fritz, it was purchased by him in the US decades ago and recently entered our inventory due to a trade. The workmanship on the small clay pendants is amazi ...click for details

This superb Precolumbian ceramic mold (AXH1456R1N2) is one of many from one of the most unique collections to be sold in recent years. From the estate of the late Dr. Allen Heflin, amateur archeologist and one-time president of the Kansas City Chapter of the Missouri Archeological Society, he found this 3 ¼” tall piece in Vera Cruz and attributed it to the Remojadas period, c.300-700AD. The mold is in excellent condition. The contemporary silvery cast made from the mold is aluminized silicone se ...click for details

$1500.00 (Will Consider Offer)

Too heavy to wear in today's decorator-conscious environment, this 4 3/4" tall cream-colored stone head (CLP 26) shows convincing evidence of its age in with the trail-like etching visible on its still muddy back. Unattributed and from the Claudia Proto West Mexican collection, it has Mayan characteristics and probably dates into the late Classic Period, c.600-900AD. Graded at a 7 (out of 10) due to the damage on its left ear, the stone appears to be an albitite that, on the whole, has ...click for details

Aside for the overall quality and frequent uniqueness of the artifacts and relics from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection, it’s difficult not to to rank its next most important feature as the extreme care practiced by Heflin in documenting the provenance of almost every one of his approximately 10,000 treasured items. Not all of them were large, or impressive, or complete, or of museum quality, and many were simply the fragments and parts from ritually broken offerings to ancient gods, or pieces re ...click for details
