The slightly bow-legged image has been glued together and represents a powerful male wearing necklace, armbands, a head sash, and a kilt-like loin covering. The late Lynn Langdon found all of the individually priced Pre-Columbian copper artifacts and lots in this group (LLL917D; 974C, E, H, K, L, M, N, Q and U; 985H and 1210) in West Mexico in the mid-20th century. This must be one of the largest Precolumbian tweezers (LLL250) ever made! Measuring 4 15/16” in length, and in overall very good condition (it still works) with some slight bends and a great patina, it was found in west Mexico in the mid-1900s. From the Langdon collection, the tweezers is probably Tarascan in origin dating c.1000-1500AD. Ordinarily, these are called depilators and were used for removing facial and body hair. Weighing a hefty 58 grams and lost wax cast from 14K gold, this beautifully preserved pectoral pendant (H4015) depicts the image of the harpy eagle, the most powerful of its type in the world, but now a practically extinct bird. This approximately 15” x 26” rectangular textile fragment (FP1366B) is attributed to the Chancay horizon of Peru dating c.1100-1400AD. In fair to very good condition, depending upon which part of the fabric you’re viewing, the eight bordered panels making up the fragment are each centered with a fan-tailed bird that may represent a pelican, or some other shore bird.
