$29,500.00

Weighing over 55 grams and measuring 3 ¼” in height, this wonderfully crafted anthropomorphic 20-22K gold image (H4154) is said to represent a shaman. Attributed to the Veraguas horizon in Panama, c.500-1200AD, it is one of three different available images that can be put in a row to depict the transformation sequence of shaman to his animal form, in this case a caiman, the South American crocodile. With a bale attached to the recessed back, this powerful piece can be worn. You’ll seldom find or ...click for details

$39,750.00

This phenomenal depiction of the shaman undergoing empowerment is almost pure gold! Worn in Precolumbian Panama by a member of the Veraguas group, the 3 7/8” long pendant (100.80HD) was authenticated and tested as 23K gold by the Orenda laboratory in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It’s difficult to find the right words to describe an item of such beauty and power, but a similar, only slightly larger piece sold at Sotheby’s years ago for almost $80,000! This extraordinary example of the ancient gold worke ...click for details

$13,500.00

Not exactly the same, but probably once hanging from the same necklace, this closely matched pair of 2 3/8” tall figural pendants (TFX117) are attributed to the Veraguas horizon of Panama, dating c.500-1200AD. The figures, representing shamans wearing bat god masks, each hold a large tumi shaped blade in one hand, and what appears to be a sling in the other. Lost wax cast in the high copper, low gold alloy known as tumbaga, the figures were subsequently surface enriched through the depletion gil ...click for details

Unmistakably of the Sinu style, this matched pair of heavy gold earrings (103.42HD) is from the Gulf of Uruba area of Colombia and dates c.400-1600AD. Just over 2 ¾” in width and made in Precolumbian times using the cire perdue technique (lost wax casting), the earrings are in overall very good condition (one of them has been slightly bent at a corner and a few of the gold rings are cracked, but without any significant weakening of the piece). This spectacular set could be adapted for contempora ...click for details

This 2 5/8” tall, simply decorated, spread eagle pendant (TF97.148) is from the Veraguas horizon of Panama dating c.500-1200AD. Identified as a harpy eagle, and usually associated with shamanic transformation, this striking wearable pendant was lost wax cast with gold that tests out at about 14K. In overall very good condition, one of the wings has some incipient cracking caused by light bending of the crystallized gold. There does not appear to be any danger of breakage unless a heavy weight or ...click for details

Aside for the overall quality and frequent uniqueness of the artifacts and relics from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection, it’s difficult not to to rank its next most important feature as the extreme care practiced by Heflin in documenting the provenance of almost every one of his approximately 10,000 treasured items. Not all of them were large, or impressive, or complete, or of museum quality, and many were simply the fragments and parts from ritually broken offerings to ancient gods, or pieces re ...click for details
