This 6” tall, rather professorial looking and well-attired gent (PES23), complete with breechclout, turban, and shawl over shoulder, stands with a slight smile on his face obviously caused by the pleasure he feels in showing off the small dog carried in the crook of his right arm. In spite of the left leg being glued on, a chip on the back of his right foot, and the bottom of the pup long since missing, the figure still displays well, but will need some support to stand alone. This 12” tall ‘smiling face’ figural whistle (TEH.F50.4) is attributed to the Veracruz horizon along the Gulf Coast area of Mexico dating into the Late Classic Period, c.550-950AD. The hollow figure, with outstretched arms and filed teeth, wears a necklace of four large disk beads with a cone-shaped center piece that may not be original to the image, or if so, was not very well centered when re-attached (it too has been glued in place). At the top edge of his headdress is the whistle hole (the w ...click for details

This spectacular large eagle pendant (95.225 HD) is attributed to the Veraguas horizon in Panama. The 100+ gram lost wax casting dates c.500-1100AD. The eagle (most likely worn by a powerful chieftain or shaman) measures an impressive 5 ¾” from wing tip to tip. The gold has been analyzed and tests approximately 14k. As was done to much of the Precolumbian alloyed gold, this piece was enriched at the surface in ancient days by the ‘depletion gilding technique’. This great display piece was broken ...click for details
