The small stone beads or pendants in this group of twelve (LLL 1205A, D, G, J, L, P, S, W, Y, AA, AH and AO), dating c.300BC-600AD and assigned to the Colima horizon, were all collected by the late Lynn Langdon in West Mexico during the mid-20th century. In Pre-Columbian days, the little figures were strung in necklaces and worn as protective amulets. Found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon, this 7 ½” long stone animal (LLL1024), looking very much like a bear or buffalo, may have been used as a bark beater, or perhaps as a grinding tool. The bark beater interpretation is supported by the parallel grooves on its somewhat rounded back, but there’s no clear evidence on what appears to be a grinding surface that it was ever used to grind. The twelve Pre-Columbian stone axes in this group (LLL293, LLL304, LLL734, LLL777, LLL780, LLL781, LLL787, LLL789, LLL790, LLL803, LLL804 and LLL816) were all found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon.
