$175.00

This intact and undamaged example of a Pre-Columbian ear flare (LLL731R4N2A) was found in west Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon. Attributed to the Nayarit group and dating c.300BC-200AD, the flare was made from relatively soft, pale greenish gray stone and is 1 ¾” wide and 1 1/8” tall. The surface of the stone is moderately stained and the once polished finish a little rough from exposure to weathering and ground waters. A good ‘type’ piece that comes with a small display ...click for details

Measuring 3 ¼” in length, this gracefully shaped, polished, dark greenstone chisel (TEH160) comes without specfic provenance but is believed to be Pre-Columbian in age and was probably found in Mexico by the late Chester Howard. In excellent condition with only a couple of tiny dings on its sharpened bit edge and the corner of its poll, it was most likely used for woodworking and dates somewhere in the period c.300BC-1500AD. The chisel comes with a small display card, a biographical sketch abou ...click for details

This polished, dark greenish black basalt, Precolumbian petaloid celt, or ungrooved axe (LLL782) is 2 7/8” long and ¾” thick. Brightened with large patches of an ivory colored and slightly fibrous included mineral, its finished surface is attractively different than most of its type. In overall fairly good condition with a usage chunk out of one corner along its bit edge, the late Lynn Langdon found the celt in the Nayarit area of west Mexico in the mid-20th century. It is dated c.300BC-1300AD a ...click for details

The small stone beads or pendants in this group of twelve (LLL 1205A, D, G, J, L, P, S, W, Y, AA, AH and AO), dating c.300BC-600AD and assigned to the Colima horizon, were all collected by the late Lynn Langdon in West Mexico during the mid-20th century. In Pre-Columbian days, the little figures were strung in necklaces and worn as protective amulets. The pieces in this lot represent predominantly anthropomorphic or human forms but also include a bird, a frog and a jaguar head. Each could be eas ...click for details

This semi-polished, mottled light gray and green stone bird pendant (PBF211) was found in the shaft tomb region of southern Colombia close to the border of Ecuador and is attributed to the Narino Capuli period, c.900-1400AD. Measuring 1 7/8” in length from the tip of its toucan-like beak to the tip of its rounded tail, it could easily be mistaken as jade, but with a measured specific gravity of 2.78, it is too light to be so identified. Generically still relatable to the metamorphic environment, ...click for details

$1200.00

Found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon, this 7 ½” long stone animal (LLL1024), looking very much like a bear or buffalo, may have been used as a bark beater, or perhaps as a grinding tool. The bark beater interpretation is supported by the parallel grooves on its somewhat rounded back, but there’s no clear evidence on what appears to be a grinding surface that it was ever used to grind. Whatever its use, the quadruped was attributed by Langdon to the Pre-Classic Co ...click for details

This stone animal head (LLL785), apparently fashioned to represent a tapir, was once at the back or poll end of a fine effigy axe. Broken across the shallow hafting groove that encircled the axe, the head has no other significant damage and by itself is a good example of the skilled Pre-Columbian stone-worker’s art. Measuring 2 ¾” in length, and 1 5/8” in height at the head, the axe is attributed to the Colima horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-200AD. Made from grayish green volcanic rock, th ...click for details

This unusual and attractively styled necklace (PBF204) is made up of a mixture of larger, slightly graduated, cream-colored Pre-Columbian stone beads each of which has the general appearance of the truncated top of an ice cream cone (i.e., 2/3 of the lower part of the cone is missing), separated by small disk-shaped spacer beads of the same material.
