The scorpion was a popular protective image in the ancient Near East. This 8mm x 6mm x 2.5mm agate ring seal (100.57ADHD) depicts the creature on its intaglio face. Found in western Afghanistan during the Russian occupation, the seal is in overall very good condition with a tiny chip just under its rim on the domed base. This 16 ½” choker necklace (104.11BHD) is made up of ancient Egyptian beads dating from the XXV Dynasty to the Greco-Roman Period, c.713BC-395AD. From the well-known Phillip Mitry collection, the beads include glass, stone, and faience. A fine glass eye bead is included in the group. Mitry was a registered antiquities dealer with a shop in downtown Cairo called the Anglo-American Bookstore and Antiquities Shop. This dark blue ancient glass amulet (102.9HD) is darkly translucent, almost opaque. Found in Lebanon, it dates into the Roman Period, c.100BC-100AD. Just short of 7/8” in length, an embossed image on the front may represent an animal, but it’s impossible to be sure. In overall good condition, the surface of the pitted, bubbly glass has fine iridescence from burial. The amulet comes with a small display card and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.

This beautifully crafted, almost 1¼ pound bronze circlet (97.56HD) was found during the Russian occupation in the ancient oasis kingdom of Bactria located in the deserts of north Afghanistan and now known as BMAC (Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex).
