This 16 ˝” choker necklace (104.11BHD) is made up of ancient Egyptian beads dating from the XXV Dynasty to the Greco-Roman Period, c.713BC-395AD. From the well-known Phillip Mitry collection, the beads include glass, stone, and faience. A fine glass eye bead is included in the group. Mitry was a registered antiquities dealer with a shop in downtown Cairo called the Anglo-American Bookstore and Antiquities Shop. This 1” tall, ancient Egyptian faience amulet (BWO1) has been identified as the Aegis of Bastet. The aegis is the collarlike necklace on which the head of the cat, a benevolent and friendly image, acted as the eye of the moon.
