The scorpion was a popular protective image in the ancient Near East. This 8mm x 6mm x 2.5mm agate ring seal (100.57ADHD) depicts the creature on its intaglio face. Found in western Afghanistan during the Russian occupation, the seal is in overall very good condition with a tiny chip just under its rim on the domed base. This beautifully crafted, almost 1¼ pound bronze circlet (97.56HD) was found during the Russian occupation in the ancient oasis kingdom of Bactria located in the deserts of north Afghanistan and now known as BMAC (Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex). Heavily patinated and encrusted with copper salts, it is a spectacular example of the early bronze worker's art. This group of twelve individually priced ancient rings seals (100.57L, Q, AB, AH, AL, AP, AT, AV, BF, BG, BQ, and 101.AHHD) are all engraved (one is molded glass so it is impressed) in intaglio style with imagery that includes: Bull, Man, Ruler, Tamgha, Chimera, Antelope, Oryx, Centaur, a Knot, and Kufic Script). Circular in form with a scalloped edge, this ¾” wide, incised steatite dot seal pendant (97.287HD) is attributed to the Bactrian Empire of northern Afghanistan dating into the 2nd Millennium BC. In excellent condition, the dot image appears to represent a kneeling figure. The pendant comes with a small display card and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
