This extraordinary matched pair of ancient gold earrings (WJF378) was found in the desert sands of northern Afghanistan in the area known as BMAC (Bactria Margiana Archeological Complex) sometime during the Russian occupation. The intaglio figure on this 10mm x 12mm oval ring seal (100.57KHD) may represent the seated image of Zeus, but is more likely a depiction of a warrior or chief. In overall good and mountable condition, there are a couple of areas of minor rim damage that neither effect the image or nor limit the use of the gem to mount it in a modern setting. From the estate of the world traveler, Dr. Allen Heflin, this heavy bronze bracelet (AXH230.73) was acquired in Turkey and attributed to the Hittite Empire, c.2nd Millennium BC. Measuring just shy of 3 ½” in outside diameter, the heavy bronze bar is well patinated and sparsely coated with a patchy encrustation that can be at least partially flaked off with a finger nail. Circular in form with a scalloped edge, this ¾” wide, incised steatite dot seal pendant (97.287HD) is attributed to the Bactrian Empire of northern Afghanistan dating into the 2nd Millennium BC. In excellent condition, the dot image appears to represent a kneeling figure. The pendant comes with a small display card and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
