ANCIENT GOLD EARRINGS, AFGHAN, PRE-ISLAMIC
This remarkably well-preserved set of ancient hollow high karat gold earrings (WJF413) came out of Afghanistan during the Russian occupation. In dented condition, they have been adapted for modern wear with gold studs. Measuring 1 1/8” across, and 1 ¾” from the bottom to the top of the original ear loop, the earrings are believed to date into the Pre-Islamic period sometime during the late first millennium BC to the middle first millennium AD. The ‘gems’ are garnet-colored glass beads. A fine example of early granulation, the set comes with a small display card.
