| This beautifully crafted, almost 1¼ pound bronze circlet (97.56HD) was found during the Russian occupation in the ancient oasis kingdom of Bactria located in the deserts of north Afghanistan and now known as BMAC (Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex). Heavily patinated and encrusted with copper salts, it is a spectacular example of the early bronze worker's art. Dating c.2500-1500BC, and almost certainly too heavy to have been worn as a bracelet, the ends are formed into 'dragon heads' (possibly ram heads). Exactly how it was used is not known, but may have been a harnessing or rein ring of some sort. The piece is 4 7/8" wide and comes with a small display card, copies from a recent newspaper article discussing and locating the BMAC area, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. | |||||
