ANCIENT AGATE RING SEAL WITH SCORPION
The scorpion was a popular protective image in the ancient Near East. This 8mm x 6mm x 2.5mm agate ring seal (100.57ADHD) depicts the creature on its intaglio face. Found in western Afghanistan during the Russian occupation, the seal is in overall very good condition with a tiny chip just under its rim on the domed base. Attributed to the Sassanian Empire and dated c.300-600AD, this intriguing bit of ancient art comes in a small Ziploc stapled to a descriptive card, along with a map of Afghanistan showing the general area in which the seal was found, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
