NAYARIT CERAMIC HOUSE MODEL, WOMAN AND DOGS

The scene of a woman sitting is a breezeway between two ‘cabins’ (RFM42) surrounded by her three pets doesn’t differ significantly from what one might experience in some remote area of Mexico today. Attributed to the Nayarit of West Mexico, this Ixtlan del Rio styled Protoclassic model dates c.100BC-250AD. In overall very good condition, the 6 ½” long plaza is raised on four tapered feet and still retains traces of red and white paint. The largest of the three pups is missing its tail, and there appears to have been some professional restoration near one end across the base. A touch of dried glue on the seat at the back of the figure tells of some additional light repair in that area. This touching assemblage is from the local collection of one of the founders of the now defunct Rocky Mountain Institute of Pre-Columbian Studies and comes with a small display card, a map of Mexico highlighting the Nayarit area, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Don’t forget to watch for the additional pieces that will soon be listed under the prefix RFM from this interesting and newly consigned collection.
