ANCIENT EGYPTIAN COWROID WITH VULTURE IMAGE
This approximately 20mm long steatite cowroid (97.124HD), a scarab-like form in the general shape of a cowry shell but without the detail of the beetle on its upper part, is decorated on its base with the stylized image of a vulture, considered by the ancient Egyptians as being an excellent mother, and with its wide wingspan, seen as all-encompassing and providing a protective cover to its infants. In overall very good condition without glaze and attributed to the 11th-14th Dynasty, c.2160-1790BC, this relatively large protective amulet comes with a small display card and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. NOTE: if you would enjoy quickly browsing a large variety and number of our catalog items through our ‘Twelve per page format’, spell out the word TWELVE in the search box and it will bring them all up. It’s a great time saver!
