| The 24 variscite (a hydrous aluminum phosphate mineral) beads and pendant that make up this stunning necklace (PBF205) are all attributed to the Tairona horizon of Colombia dating c.1000-1600AD. The mineral variscite, though looking much like green turquoise, was confirmed through the use of a refractometer that showed a spot refractive index of 1.58. Deposits of variscite are found in South America and on an island off the Pacific Coast of Colombia. The stone beads are separated with modern, approximately 7mm long, gold-plated and decorative silver tube beads that add a warm contrast and rich look to the necklace. The contemporary gold-plated silver clasp at the ends of the necklace allows easy and secure wear. The well-carved stone pendant represents the shaman’s alter-ego, the high-flying vulture or condor, capable of flying into the heavenly void in his constant effort to peer into other worlds. Measuring 24” in length, this spectacular and easy to wear necklace comes with a small display card, a map of Colombia high-lighting the Tairona area, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Select or ask any question by referring to either the Trocadero Item Number in the upper left portion of this page, or to this item’s unique Inventory Number, PBF 205.
