TWELVE CLAY PUPPET PARTS: HEFLIN, GROUP AC
This fun group of twelve artifacts, each shown with a centimeter scale for size and individually priced, consists of ceramic parts that were used for the assembly of Pre-Columbian puppets! All from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection, each torso, arm, leg, or body (AXH 1429R3N2, 2125i, 2325F-J-K-0, 2326D-G-K, 2327C-D and 2354) has been attached to a card with water soluble Elmer’s glue, and each card annotated with a brief description and the price. The ruler is divided into centimeters. Most are related to the Teotihuacan and later period and were molded (one full body less detachable head was hand-modeled and dates to the very early Pre-Classic, c.1500-1100BC). Found at the sites of Xico, Teotihuacan, Huexotla and the El Christo Mound in Vera Cruz (as faithfully marked by Heflin on the back of each, usually along with the date found in the mid-20th century), their condition ranges from fairly good to excellent. When they were complete, they are said to have served as toys and offerings to the gods. Each comes with a copy of the memoriam to Heflin published in the Missouri Archaeological Society Quarterly, a copy of our biographical sketch telling about both the man and his collection, a map on which appears the highlighted area where the artifact was found, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Select or ask any question by first referring to the Trocadero Number on this page, and the inventory number shown on the given photograph. Any that have been sold will be so-marked. If you’d like to see all of our currently listed items from the Heflin collection, simply type AXH in any of the search links in our catalog, and a complete list will appear. And if you’d like to see all of the various other items listed in our popular group of twelve format (a great way to save on browsing time), enter the single word TWELVE into the search link. If interested only in a particular type, add a descriptive word to your search such as jewelry, pot, textile, gold, coin, etc.
