Measuring 9 ¾” in width and 3 5/8” tall, this intact polychrome tripod grater bowl (LLL15) was found in west Mexico in the middle 20th century. There is little evidence of use in the sharp-edged incised grater area. The burnished surface paint is strong although obvious black negative resist décor has been mostly removed. Well...almost nude! Wearing coiled headband, ear decorations and a neck collar, the impressive, 11” tall young female (RFM36) wears nothing else but a pout. The solid, hand modeled ceramic image is attributed to the Colima horizon of West Mexico dating c.300-100BC and comes from the collection of one of the founders of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Pre-Columbian Studies. In overall good condition, and an eye-catching display piece, the figure has lost its left ear ornament, has lost a bit of i ...click for details

Too heavy to wear in today's decorator-conscious environment, this 4 3/4" tall cream-colored stone head (CLP 26) shows convincing evidence of its age in with the trail-like etching visible on its still muddy back. Unattributed and from the Claudia Proto West Mexican collection, it has Mayan characteristics and probably dates into the late Classic Period, c.600-900AD.
