This group of twelve individually priced, colorfully painted and very decorative, 19th century porcelain jars (FP Series 1262, 1263, 1265-1268, 1271, 1272, 1278, 1280, 1368 and 1369) were all purchased in Hong Kong in the early 1980s by Fenton Parke of Casper, Wyoming. From a once much larger and varied collection, each of the pieces comes with a certificate from a Honk Kong art appraiser stating that it dates to into the T’ung Chih period of the Ching Dynasty, c.1862-1864. The top of this early celluloid/bakelite jewelry box (MRWK393) is 3 ¼” in diameter and the round, satin-bottomed box that it covers is 2 7/8” across. The striking little box has a light lemon colored bottom and a black top. The bottom of the black cover has a circular groove that ‘locks’ it to the ribbed, ivory colored center.
