Beautiful and delicate gold brooch with pearls from the Tehuantepec Istmus in Oaxaca Mexico. Great example of the amazing work done in Oaxacan Gold Jewelry.
Very similar to pendant shown in page 108 of the book "Mexican Jewelry" by Mary L. Davis and Greta Pack.
This kind of work was usually done in 14 K gold and the carved leaves and flowers in 22 K. The use of different alloys of gold was used to achieve variations in color. Marked 14K in the back.

This kind of old work is not produced anymore and is not the tourist kind, they were made for the local women who used to wear them at important celebrations.
