We have a very nice piece of English folk art, a hand painted clock face from the mid 1800's. It has the name of the maker, J. Edgecumbe, from Bristol. The paint and old coat of varnish are a bit crackled and chippy, but it has a wonderful primitive look. A nice piece to add to your collection! It is, of course, very heavy, and measures 13 inches square.
This is a stunning, large clock face or dial, from an English long clock or grandfather clock, as we call them in America. It is richly decorated with warm, beautiful, hand painted scenes depicting symbols of the time in English culture. There is a traditional English landscape painted on the central arch while the four corners show scenes that are more exotic, suggesting faraway places overseas, such as the middle east.
