$585 SALE PRICE

A very fine oil painting of two mounted hunters, from England and dating to circa 1820 or perhaps, earlier. There does not appear to be a signature. There is lots of detail and the talent here is obvious. Condition is okay with some crazing to the paint surface and a few nicks and rubs. It is housed in a much younger frame that dates to the later 1800's and measures 12.5 X 10.5. Original price was $825.

We have a set of three landscape paintings by the same artist and this is the second of these paintings. They are oil on canvas scenes from the Scottish Highlands and date to the Victorian era. They are all signed by D. Hicks. The frames were made recently and measure 20 X 14.5 inches. Condition is generally good with general surface crazing and some flaking and loss of paint, which I have tried to show in the photos. A lovely set of warm landscape scenes!

$395 SALE PRICE

This is an oil painting attributed to Philip Rideout (1860-1920), the famous English painter of hunting and coaching scenes. We have some of his paintings for sale on this website. This oil on card is unsigned, hence the attribution. But it was purchased with a group of Rideout paintings and the style is definitely Rideout. It is housed in a thick chunky frame made of old reclaimed wormy wood that measures 14.5 X 21 inches. Original price was $575.

This is an 19th century oil painting on what appears to be canvas that has been affixed to a wood panel. The image is from the Shakespeare play "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and features Falstaff, a comical character. The painting is from England and is unsigned as far as we can determine. There are some condition issues with this painting, mainly the surface which has crazed significantly, pulling apart in places. The photos (and price) reflect the poor condition. The painting is ...click for details

Donated to equine rescue organization

We have a very nice pair of horse portraits- oil on paper- signed and dated 1921. These horses were probably owned by the artist, or perhaps the artist was commissioned to paint them for someone. At any rate, a very competent talent is evident. They are housed in newer burled frames with gilt liners and linen mats. The frames measure approx. 16 X 16.5 inches. Original price was $850.

This is an unusual oil on canvas of a Golden Retriever hunting in the field. Unusual because it is very rare to find 19th century paintings of this breed and also rare to find paintings of this breed actually hunting. It bears the signature of Robert Cleminson and it certainly looks like one of his paintings, but the signature does not look original to the painting. The canvas was restored and relined at some point and I wonder if the original signature was lost when the canvas may have been ...click for details

$595 SALE PRICE

Old unframed oil on canvas by the very famous, well-listed English sporting dog painter Robert Cleminson (op.1865-1903). The painting depicts two spaniels at the edge of a marsh landscape and two mallard ducks. The canvas measures 16 X 12 inches and is in sound, sturdy condition with no tears, punctures or repairs. It is however, quite dirty and could use a good cleaning. It also has several missing chips of paint, which are visible in the close-up photos. We are offering it unframed, just ...click for details

This is a lovely, rather naive oil on canvas painting of a bob tail bay horse in a loose box stall. It has a primitive folk art quality to it. The only signage is a monogram, W. G., on the blanket, which was difficult to photograph. This is from England and dates to the mid - late 1800's. It is in a wonderful old gilt frame from the same period. It is around 15" X 21". Originally $1,200.

This is an unusual, exquisite old bowl that sits on a gilt bronze stand held aloft by three delicate legs. It dates to the mid 1800's and features a wonderful painting of three hunting dogs in a mountainous landscape entitled "The Setters From Drawing by Landseer", referring to Sir Edwin Landseer, the most famous of all 19th century dog painters. The condition of the painting is fair, with some loss of paint and an overall crazing of the surface, but the many years have given it ...click for details
