$395/pair SALE PRICE

Pair of watercolored ink drawn foxes that have been killed and hung up. Typical European school "nature morte", hunting game still life paintings. These date to the very early 1900's and are probably French or German. Condition is excellent except for a cut-off corner on one painting that was laid on top of a mat for framing. This flaw is easily seen in the photo, but not terribly noticeable. It was, however, the only way to frame this painting. They are in vintage burled woo ...click for details

This is the second of a pair of superb old original British watercolor paintings of typical English fox hunt scenes, showing fox hunters going over fences in an open landscape. These are not prints or engravings, but original paintings. They have lots of age spots, typical for works on paper, and easily seen in the photographs. These can be removed if one is so inclined; I have no problem with authentic aging, so I have left them alone. We are unable to find a signature which is a shame bec ...click for details

$1,800

Large watercolor painting from England, circa mid to late 1800s, signed J. F. Herring. Very well rendered, lots of action and detail, a typical Herring! The painting is affixed to a thick card, which is signed "Herring" at either corner and on the verso. Condition is fair with a good bit of fading of the colors, which is pretty typical of watercolor paintings of this age. There are also several surface scuff marks and scrapes, but these do not detract at all from the piece. It is ...click for details

An unusual watercolor painting of a carriage and driver, supposedly by the famous listed English artist, J. Sanderson Wells (1872-1955). It is signed J. S. Wells, and dated 1921, but we have not authenticated the signature and the price reflects that. The original mat had his name affixed to it, so we preserved that and put it on the verso. It was re-matted and put into an antique birdseye maple frame that measures 19.25 X 15.25 inches. The painting has faded quite a bit and some of the color ...click for details
