This is a pair of coaching watercolor paintings on thick woven paper attributed to the famous English sporting painter, Philip H. Rideout (1860-1920). He preferred gouache or oil on card and his style was simple, light, and whimsical. Rideout was known for scratching his signature and date in the still-wet oil paint and although he is best known for his oils, he di ...click for details

Here is a bright, cheerful French painting of grapes, done in watercolor. This was painted back in the early 1900's by an art student at the Ecole Regionale des Beaux-Arts. It is an original design in the William Morris tradition and is entitled "Etoffe de Tenture", which roughly translates to "hanging bunch (of grapes)". The painting is housed in an outstanding 19th century gold leaf gesso frame (also from France) that measures a large 17 X 24 inches, and retains its ori ...click for details

It is in an antique pine frame with mahogany veneer that measures around 8 X 11 inches. The reason for the odd shaped mat is that ...click for details

A very well-rendered watercolor painting of three polo players in action. This was a design for an full-page advertisement for the 'Polo' cigarettes, a European brand which is still made today. If you look closely, you can barely see the light pencil lettering that reads "Polo Cigarettes" in the background. With the painting came the instructions "cover design" and the artist's name and address. This dates to the 1930-40 era. The painting is in an earlier, 19th ce ...click for details
