A superbly executed watercolor thought to be by the very famous English sporting artist, Samuel Henry Alken Jnr. (1810-1894). The skill is unmistakable and the talent is obvious; all that's missing is a signature, but unfortunately the margins on this painting were trimmed long ago, or this may be cut from a much larger painting. At any rate, the signature was lost. The painting is housed in a later frame, from the Edwardian era (ca. 1900) of inlaid wood. Framed size is 11 X 9 inches. ...click for details

These faults are barely not ...click for details

This is a darling little watercolor painting of two naughty pugs, tormenting a kitten that has tried to escape by hiding in what appears to be an armored helmet of some kind. One of the dogs has caught the cat by its tail and the cat is definitely making its unhappiness unknown! The painting is unsigned and dates to the late 1800's. It is in a decorated gesso frame from the same period that measures 8.5 X 7 inches.

Anyone who has one of these remarkable little dogs understands how they simply live to chase furry critters, so this is soooo characteristic of the breed! This is actually a watercolored ink drawing on heavy textured paper. It is not signed, but it is dated '26. The framed size is 10.5 X 15.25 inches. Original price was $385.
