This is an original cover from the famous old (and out of production) sporting magazine, "The Field", from 1923. It features a painting of a fox hound in an open landscape, courtesy of Arthur Ackerman, a London fine art gallery that still exists today. This is a very interesting old engraving, copperplate I believe, telling the story of a Scottish deerhound that was shot on a hunting outing. The main image is rather sad. It shows the hound, lying at the feet of its family who is obviously very upset. Around the perimeter are a series of drawn vignettes, telling the background story leading up to the death of the dog. Here's what I surmise happened: the deerhound and his kilted master set out in the mountains, hunting deer. Unfortunat ...click for details

We have a colorful old Edwardian era postcard from England depicting a fox hunter entitled "A Country Squire". It is signed and dated in ink on the bottom of the card by the artist, Henrie Pitcher, 25.3.05, which would be March 25, 1905. Pitcher, from England and active around the turn of the century, was known for painting character portraits. He quotes a writer: "Here's to the horse, and the rider too, of course; And here's to the rally o' the hunt, boys". ...click for details
