$325 SALE PRICE

This is such a charming, humorous pair of dog prints, depicting a terrier (Cairn?) who is at first, sick in bed. Until someone mentions "rats" and he comes to life! So typical of a true terrier! These are signed by the famous American artist Abbot Henderson Thayer (1849-1921) and appear to come from a book, as there are numbers in the corner. The first one is labeled "A very sick dog" and the second one says "Who said rats?". They are housed in a antique matche ...click for details

$65 ea, $950 all

We have a large collection of 'pencil lithographs' that date to the late 1800's. They come from the disbound book "Splutterings of a Sporting Pen" by S.T. Richardson. This was a private publishing as there is no date and the binding was very primitive. Condition of these lithographs is generally good, with obvious age toning and fraying of the paper edges. Some are in better shape than others. Each lithograph measures 17 X 10.75 and is unmatted and unframed. Each one ...click for details

We don't have many prints in the shop, preferring instead original paintings and drawings. Sometimes, however, we offer an original engraving or a really special print and this is one of those pieces. Entitled "A Southerly Wind & A Cloudy Sky", this original, hand colored, 1835 engraving is after a painting by the famous sporting artist Francis Calcraft Turner (1782-1846). It is a nicely rendered hunt scene accompanied by a romantic prose lamenting hunting in poor weather. Ther ...click for details

This is a very interesting old engraving, copperplate I believe, telling the story of a Scottish deerhound that was shot on a hunting outing. The main image is rather sad. It shows the hound, lying at the feet of its family who is obviously very upset. Around the perimeter are a series of drawn vignettes, telling the background story leading up to the death of the dog. Here's what I surmise happened: the deerhound and his kilted master set out in the mountains, hunting deer. Unfortunat ...click for details
