This is such a charming, humorous pair of dog prints, depicting a terrier (Cairn?) who is at first, sick in bed. Until someone mentions "rats" and he comes to life! So typical of a true terrier! These are signed by the famous American artist Abbot Henderson Thayer (1849-1921) and appear to come from a book, as there are numbers in the corner. We have a large collection of 'pencil lithographs' that date to the late 1800's. They come from the disbound book "Splutterings of a Sporting Pen" by S.T. Richardson. This was a private publishing as there is no date and the binding was very primitive. Condition of these lithographs is generally good, with obvious age toning and fraying of the paper edges. This is an original cover from the famous old (and out of production) sporting magazine, "The Field", from 1923. It features a painting of a fox hound in an open landscape, courtesy of Arthur Ackerman, a London fine art gallery that still exists today. There are so many reproduction vintage magazine covers, but the originals, such as this one, are quite rare. It is housed in an antique mahogany frame that measures 18.75 X 14.75.

This is an original copy of the very famous, and highly sought-after Vanity Fair print entitled "The Winning Post", dated Dec. 8, 1888. It features caricatures of the well-known racing figures of the day in Victorian-age England. Shown are: Judge Clark, Sir John Astley Bart, J. Osborne, Tom Cannon, J. Watts, F. Webb, F. Barrett, G. We have a colorful old Edwardian era postcard from England depicting a fox hunter entitled "A Country Squire". It is signed and dated in ink on the bottom of the card by the artist, Henrie Pitcher, 25.3.05, which would be March 25, 1905. Pitcher, from England and active around the turn of the century, was known for painting character portraits. This framed collection of antique cigarette cards featuring famous female jockeys is just too much fun! These were from the Allen and Ginter's Tobacco Company of Richmond, VA. They were premium giveaway items, found in boxes of cigarettes, similar to baseball cards, and the ones featuring women are the rarest of all. This signed, circa 1850, lithograph is entitled "Animaux du Chasse" (Animals of the Hunt)and it features a hunting dog surrounded by just about every kind of game species there is.
