This is a good-looking enameled portrait of a gray horse on a gold ground. It is set into brass and fashioned into a stick or lapel pin. The round picture portion is almost 3/4 inches in diameter and the entire pin is almost 3 inches long. Condition is close to perfect. Only the brass needs polishing.

A very nice oil on canvas of a small pack of patiently waiting hounds, tied to a primitive sign in an open rural landscape. I believe this is a French painting. The pine stretcher has old worm holes and the painting is signed in the lower left by E. Janvier. It may also be dated, but we are unable to decipher what it says. The frame is a pine frame with walnut veneer and a gilt liner that dates from the mid 1800's and measures 20 X 16.75 inches. Original price was $995.

This is a pair of coaching watercolor paintings on thick woven paper attributed to the famous English sporting painter, Philip H. Rideout (1860-1920). He was a prolific painter of mainly hunting and coaching scenes, and he almost always produced paintings in pairs or groups of four. He preferred gouache or oil on card and his style was simple, light, and whimsical. Rideout was known for scratching his signature and date in the still-wet oil paint and although he is best known for his oils, he di ...click for details

Here is captivating little dog, a shih tzu or some other small toy breed, sitting on a stool or ottoman. The name of the dog is inscribed in the upper right corner, but it is difficult to make out exactly what it says, perhaps "Deisey"? The French often inscribed the names of their dogs on their portraits and that leads me to believe that this oil on canvas is from France. It does not have a signature and dates to the late 1800's. Condition is good with a small bit of paint los ...click for details

A small lacquered 19th century papier mache box with an applied image of a jockey on his race horse. This may be a snuff box although it is rather large for that purpose. It measures about 3.5 inches long and 2 inches wide, dates to the latter 1800's and is in good condition. The surface has dulled somewhat and does have some scratches and dents. The hinge works well and closes correctly. There is some loss to the image as you can see from the photos. Still a very nice little box for t ...click for details
