Donated to Omega Horse Rescue, PA

Large double panoramic engraved scenes depicting various pursuits of the sporting life in England from around 1800. They were meticulously hand colored many years ago and much of the pigment has faded out giving the images a soft faded patina. This is one from a collection of three for sale. The Alkens were a very famous family of sporting artists and Samuel Alken, Snr (1756-1815) was a famous aquatint engraver. These all have a good bit of age toning which could be bleached out if the buyer ...click for details

Here is a very unusual little brass plaque featuring a highly detailed horse racing image in relief. It dates to the early 1900's, is about 3.25 X 1.75 inches, and is most likely Austrian or German in origin. It displays on its own small brass easel which measures about 4.5 inches tall- a perfect little accent piece for a shelf or desktop.

This is an ink and watercolored drawing of the famous thoroughbred, Lottery, the first horse to win the Aintree Grand National in 1839, and his jockey, Jem Mason, wearing the colors of owner John Elmore. Lottery, a gelding, was considered the most famous steeplechaser of his day in England. The painting is signed with a monogram, F. G., and dated April 22, 1844. It is in an antique pine frame with mahogany veneer that measures around 8 X 11 inches. The reason for the odd shaped mat is that ...click for details

This is a really unusual, very early, primitive inkwell. The glass reservoir is sunk into a block of wood and is topped with an ill-fitting stopper that features a tarnished silver fox mask that is remarkably well defined. Very charming!

$675/pair

This is a wonderful, rare pair of very old bowls, that appear to be dog feeding bowls, dating back to the mid 1800's at least. They are made primarily of cast iron, with the bowl portion being lined in porcelain and the outer area being lined in hand wrought bronze. They are very primitive, yet very elegant when one considers what sort of dog was lucky enough to be fed from these sorts of bowls back in the 19th century. Certainly the pampered pets of a privileged household. The porcela ...click for details

This is an antique vase, circa 1920, that is around 7 inches tall. It is made of black glass and has a silver image of a polo player. This is the most difficult item I've ever had to photograph, so please excuse my pictures- they do not do this item justice! Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks, only some loss of the silver overlaid image which has probably been caused by polishing to remove tarnish.

Here is a framed antique photo of a polo team, posed around a magnificent trophy, which someone may recognize. The thatched roof may indicate an Asian location, perhaps India, where many Brits formed polo teams during the days of the British Raj. The size of this framed piece is 15 X 12 inches. A nice looking bit of historic polo memorabilia!

Here is an interesting old framed polo item that appears to be an inlaid flooring piece by the Armstrong Co. It was found framed in this maple frame, which measures about 21" square, with the original label still attached to the back. I would date this to the mid-1900's. It can be hung on the wall, or the frame can be removed and it could be set in...to the floor, which was surely its original purpose. Very rare and good looking!

A very well-rendered watercolor painting of three polo players in action. This was a design for an full-page advertisement for the 'Polo' cigarettes, a European brand which is still made today. If you look closely, you can barely see the light pencil lettering that reads "Polo Cigarettes" in the background. With the painting came the instructions "cover design" and the artist's name and address. This dates to the 1930-40 era. The painting is in an earlier, 19th ce ...click for details
