Original Drawing of Dick Turpin by Rowlandson
This is a very interesting original sepia ink drawing commemorating the legend of Dick Turpin, by the very famous, well-listed English sporting painter and illustrator George Derville Rowlandson (1861-1930). It is fully signed in the top left corner and monogrammed in the bottom right corner.

Dick Turpin was a famous English highwayman and horse thief whose exploits were romanticized in literature throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.

Rowlandson was born in India and studied art in Gloucester, Westminster and Paris. He exhibited at the R.A. and BI (1911-1918). He contributed to such periodicals as "The Illustrated London News", and the dimensions of this page indicate that it is most likely an actual original page produced for publication. The framed size is 19.5 X 16 inches and condition is very good with just some minor age toning to the paper and a few fox spots. The period oak frame has some scuffs and scrapes that would easily be waxed out. This is a rare opportunity to own an original work by a very famous sporting artist.
