| Here is a very fine porcelain box, marked "Made in Saxony" and dating to the 19th century. On the lid is a painted portrait of a mounted military figure in traditional European regalia. All sides have applied gilt decoration, but most has worn off the lid and the area around the clasp, which is made of bronze. On the bottom is some information, most of which has worn away. This is reminiscent of Sevres and Meissen porcelain, but bears no mark other than an artist's mark on the bottom. It measures about 4.5 by 3 inches and is in excellent condition, other than the expected loss of gilt decoration. Original price was $395. | ||
