Printing wood block used for a prayer flag, representing three lamas, probably three Bodhisattvas as they all have the gesture of argument ("Vitarka Mudra"). In this gesture the tips of thumb and index fingers touch each other, forming a circle, whereas all other fingers are extended upwards. Very old printing wood block used for the Tibetan prayer flag, representing the "Chatra" (the Buddhist holy parasol). It is a symbol of Buddhist goddesses such as Pancharaksa, Usnisasita. It protects from evil spirits. It is one of the eight symbols of good luck in Buddhism. This block has been directly collected from a Tamang community in the Solu district (Central Estern Nepal). A primitive figure standing in the well identified Namaste position. The figure stands in the sitting position. The legs are carved but remains attached to the body, the hands are joined in the Namaste position to pay respect to the audience. The figure is covered with white mineral pigments and shows old traces of insects (no more present). Zoomorphic wooden churning rod with a figure on top showing a buffalo, the piece is covered with geometric carvings quite typical of the district of Rukkum (West Nepal). The carving is precise, nice brown to dark and encrusted solid patina with obvious signs of important use, minimum age is around 30 to 50 years. This piece is coming from the Magar tribes height 17.5 cm , thick 3 cm, the cow is 5 x 7 cm . Hard wood, very good condition. The piece is nicely mounted on an iron stand.

Very unusual butter churner key, showing twin protectors in the meditation posture, sitting on their bottom with elbows leaning on their knees, their head between their hands. The rope is still attached through an iron hook. Very powerful symmetrical lines, black hard patina in some areas, whereas others shows sign of use. An exceptional articulated butter churner key ("Ghurra" in nepalese language) carved in a single piece of wood. The top represents a cow ( 8 X 5 X 4 cm). This ghurra has been collected in the district of Rukum ( western nepal). Milk and butter encrusted patina, obvious signs of use. Age: probably from middle of 20th C. Very good condition. Height 11 1/2 inches (28 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on an iron stand.

A very original butter churner key showing a fine janus figure inserted in a square window to ensure a strong architecture. This was necessary to avoid breaking of the piece. The middle part figures a short knot, this "ghurra" has been collected in the district of Rukum (Western Nepal). Black and hard encrusted patina. Obvious signs of great age ( around 50 years). A Churning-rod holder also called “ghurra” in nepalee Although this one can first appears as quite classic, it shows a very nice light brown and in some place encrusted patina indicating a great age possibly over 50 years, this ghurra has been collected in the district of Rukum ( western nepal) .
