This is a nice 20th century metal toy samurai sword that would be presented to a boy on Boys Day – traditionally held on March 3rd. The sword was intended to imbue in the boy a sense of honor and strength as shown by the samurai of old. This miniature sword is made of metal and is intricately made with simulated sharks skin handle, a tiny sword guard (tsuba) and a decorated scabbard with a relief dragon going down the side. This is a handsome Kyo-Yaki chawan – tea bowl – that is covered in a thick enamel design of irises. The irises are dark purple and white on golden enamel crackle glazed ground and are further highlighted with bright emerald green leaves. The piece measures 4 ¾” diameter at the top and is 3 5/8” high and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is an incised mark on the base that translates as “Kutani Toho”. This is a handsome Japanese double gourd porcelain vase with a soft turquoise to lime green glaze and a carefully controlled drip pattern of golden yellow glaze flowing down from the top of the vase. The vase measures 8” high – the top bulb is 3” diameter and the bottom bulb is 4 3/8” diameter. There is a two character impressed mark on the base that translates as “DOKAN”. 995.00This is one of the nicest Satsuma tea bowls – chawan- we have had in the collection. It has the classic base glaze of tan crackle that is characteristic of all Satsuma pieces. In the center of the bowl and on the sides are overglaze enamel paintings of schools of fish – we believe them to be Japanese Rainbow Smelt. The fish are in a thick enamel that gives them a lovely three dimensional look.

This is a charming little Japanese pillbox in a paper slipcover that is covered in a woven silk design. The pillbox is covered all over with inlaid mother of pearl – aogi – that gives it an iridescent glow. The interior of the tiny box is covered throughout with the fine tiny gold particles known as Nashiji (pear skin). On the top of the box there is a design in raised gold makie lacquer of a branch of plum blossoms.

This is a fine large Japanese Imari jardiniere mounted in intricate ormolu mounts. The entire rim is encircled with a reticulated ormolu rim with three different bands of intricate geometric designs. The two handles are well-defined dragons also in ormolu. The body of the jardinière has the classic early Japanese decoration of overglaze enameled flowers and leaves in red and blue.
