This is a delightful print by the master printer, Shibata Zeshin, that portrays Okame preparing some kind of red paste to put into a box in front of her. The print measures 9 Ύ” by 6 ½” and is quite toned. We date it to the late Edo to early Meiji period, circa 1850-1870s because of the amount of toning. Despite the toning, it is a fine example of Zeshin’s drawing technique.

This is a very unusual and rare cast iron statue of Jizo, the patron saint of travelers. The Jizo is very rusty as a result of standing in the rain for decades – but still has its lovely beatific expression. Many Jizo are shown holding a round ball in their hands – this one is one of the rare ones that have the two hands together in the same position as the Buddhist mudra of Anjali (adoration).
