This is a fun, fairly large, all white seated dog – probably from the Kutani kilns in imitation of Hirado ware. The dog has a ruffled collar and three small bells hang from the collar. There is good definition to the dog’s fur and facial features – and even the bottom of the paws is well carved, The dog measures 7” high and is 6” long by 4” wide. It is in excellent condition. We date it to the late Meiji period, circa 1890-1910.

This is a delightful print by the master printer, Shibata Zeshin, that portrays Okame preparing some kind of red paste to put into a box in front of her. The print measures 9 Ύ” by 6 ½” and is quite toned. We date it to the late Edo to early Meiji period, circa 1850-1870s because of the amount of toning. Despite the toning, it is a fine example of Zeshin’s drawing technique.
