$250.00

This is a handsome small bronze head of the Buddha with an origin in Thailand. It has the tapered hair atop the head - the long earlobes and the design on the forehead typical of Thai iconology. It measures 2 ½” high by 1 3/8” wide by 1 5/8” deep – not including the round stand. (The stand is not original to the piece but makes a nice display.) We date it to the mid to late 19th century. Condition is excellent with fine patina and some early signs of verdigris.

This is a round Annamese jarlet with underglaze decorations of two fish and flowers. The top near the rim has a ring of swirling blue lines. The piece measures 2” high by 2 Ό” diameter at the waist. The jarlet has a slightly yellow cast to it and it has a crackle finish. The piece is in generally good condition for such an old piece – only a minor chip to the rim.

An interesting small bronze head of the Buddha – in researching possible origins, the closest we could find in facial and headdress characteristics is that of Nepal. The head measures 4” high by 2 ½” wide by 2” deep. It has nice patina – there appears to be some traces of gilding at some point in time. On the inside we can see some green Verdi gris. It is in very good condition – we date it to the 19th century. This fine bronze head of the Buddha was found in the waters off Lombok, an island jus ...click for details

This is one of the most unusual items we have ever had in our collection. As you can see, it is the skull of a wild boar that is engraved with a face on the front of the skull. It was purchased from a man who had lived in Indonesia for many years, so I have no reason to doubt the story behind the skull.

The story goes that a small boy fro ...click for details

The top cover and the shoulders of the bowl have a design of a band of triangular points pointing towards the center finial.

This is a handsome charger in underglaze blue and white from the Sawankhalok district in the northern part of Sukhothai Province, northern Thailand. The charger has a fine design of six stylized flowers surrounding a central reserve of a calligraphic figure – not translated. These are enclosed in a double ring – around which another band of flowers is found, again enclosed within a double ring. The outer rim has a thin band of geometric extended circles. On the bottom of the charger is a design ...click for details

This is a rare form of Sawankhalok pottery in that it is made to resemble a censer. The most common of Sawankhalok items are small covered round boxes used for paste or cosmetic boxes. This one is made to look like a censer as can be seen from the simulated vent holes done in iron brown. The censer has a gray stoneware body with a underglaze blue and iron brown painted directly onto the clay and then a thin glaze put on top. The design on both top and bottom is a freely drawn floral and geometr ...click for details

This is an early and simple Vietnamese low bowl with a pale tannish celadon glaze with a crackle finish. The top and the bottom of the bowl are glazed, but the interior of the footed rim has some glaze drips but is primarily unglazed natural clay. The glaze tended to run unevenly in some areas, making for an unusual pattern. It has an interesting rim that is wider than one would expect and has a dip surrounding it. The bowl measures 7 7/8" diameter and is 1 3/8" deep. It is in excellen ...click for details

An Annamese blue and white jarlet in an unusual form – it is square with rounded corners and a round top. The short round neck of the piece has two soft blue cobalt rings. Then the shoulder has a group of four lappets flowing from the center of the top to the tops of the four corners. On the four sides we find a design of what appears to be a branch holding three pomegranates – all done in underglaze cobalt blue. At the base of the jarlet there are conjoined lappets that end at the bottom of th ...click for details
