This is a very fine, never-framed, woodblock print by the Sosaku-Hanga master, Haku Maki. It is of a single raku winter tea bowl – Chawan – with the fine texture of the chawan showing wonderfully well because of the technique of printing devised by Maki. The print measures 8 “ square and is number 151/151. It is in excellent just printed condition.

This is a quite rare woodblock print by Jun Sekino portraying a Bunraku Puppet. It is a very colorful print of the puppet with fine registration. Ours is an earlier edition of 100 - probably the first edition - and is number 20/100. As you will see, it has been framed at some point in the past - the person who framed it bent the top down about an inch of the top to make it fit the frame. It portrays a magnificent temple at To-Ji, Japan for the followers of the branch of Buddhism called Shingon-shū. The print shows visitors with umbrellas going through the main gate to the temple as it is raining . In the misty background the pagoda of the temple can be seen.

This design is illustrated at plate 233, The Complete Woodblock Prints of Yoshida Hiroshi, Abe Publishing Co., Ltd.,(Tokyo, 1987). It is numbered # 36/60 and measures 17 3/8" by 15 1/8" – the image is 11 1/8" by 9 3/4". Mint condition – never framed, dated 1978. Saito Kaoru lives in Kanagawa Prefecture, where he was born. Hashiguchi Goyo (1881-1921) was one to the foremost Japanese print makers of the early 20th century. The print depicts a bijen-ga applying wearing a light summer kimono known as a yukata. The background is a very light whitish ping with ground mica that gives it a lustrous sheen. A fine Japanese mezzo tint print of lilies in a woven basket by Shigenu Narikawa, Shigenu (Japan, active, 1960 - 1990). Narikawa's art is well known in both Japan and the United States. One man exhibitions of his mezzotints have been held in Tokyo, Kyoto, Los Angeles, New York and Washington. He has also created original mezzotints for art publishers in both countries. A lovely print titled "Kimiko" by modern Japanese print maker, Kojima. The print depicts a beautiful lady (Bijin-ga) standing in front of a flowering bush - with a highly stylized branch framing her image. The print dates from 1980 and is an Artist's Proof. It measures 9 7/8" by 9" - the image is 4 3/4" by 3 1/2". Mint condition - never framed or matted.
