The mask represents an important person in the BaPende Society and is used to control supernatural powers. The person being initiated may be required to wear a miniature copy of the mask, usually in ivory, as a pendant. Dates from the mid 20th century. Measures 16" long by 8" wide by 6" deep. Excellent condition.
