This is a late Qing porcelain bowl with a transfer design of a Qilin in blue and white on a white porcelain body. The outer sides of the bowl have two reserves showing a running Qilin with some sort of branch in its mouth – these are separated by blue and white geometric designs. On the upper rim of the outside is a band of calligraphy that appears to be Islamic – it is quite probable that this piece was made for the Persian market. ...click for details

A Cizhou footed cup and dish with brown iron overglaze floral design on one side and a fish on one side. A single character on the inside of the cup. The cup measures 2 Ύ” high and is 3 3/8” diameter at the top. The base is unglazed. Along with a Cizhou small dish with a stylized iron brown overglaze flower and leaves on the tan ground.- the foot unglazed. The dish measures 5 ½” diameter by 1 1/8” high. A fine Guan Style glazed jar with flared and rounded rim. The crackled glaze is a light grey/blue in color. There are five low relief floret designs on the shoulder of the piece that add vibrancy to the design. The jar measures 3 1/2" high and is 3 3/4" diameter at the widest. It is in excellent condition. To be conservative we are dating the piece to the late 19th to very early 20th century; however, it could be much earlier.

An unusual Japanese porcelain bud vase in a reddish rust glaze - on top of the base glaze is design of a pomegranate done in silver that has now oxidized to a nice patina. The vase has a tapered shape that starts with a flared top - then a narrow waist - and then back to a flared base. There is a band of geometric design near the top also done in oxidized silver.

A brightly painted Nara Itto-bori doll of a Noh Dancer in full costume. It comes in its original box and is in excellent condition. The box has two sets of Kanji characters. The first set translates as "Gyosen" and the second set translates as "Nara Ningyo(doll)" – two of the other characters were too illegible to translate. The doll measures 6” high and is 3” wide by 3” deep.

A matched pair of Japanese bronze vase urns with elephant head handles. On the sides are low relief castings of figures – they appear to be priests or lohans holding a small covered jar in their left hands. The pair measure 5” high and are 4” wide at the handles. They are not signed – condition is excellent with a nice old patina. We date them to the mid to late Meiji period, circa 1880-1910.

This is an extraordinary Japanese Komai dish with decoration of a tiger in mid stride as he stalks his prey. The metals are gold, silver, and copper with the gold shading from a coppery color to a yellow gold. The detailing is as fine as you will see. The nose is a reddish copper, claws are silver, silver used for shading on face and underneath on the throat and chest. It is signed on the back with Komai's mark. This is a bombe shapes perfume holder box with a background of nashiji (pear skin) background and relieve makie decorations of birds and hanging flowers on the top and sides. The top has a nicely looped delicate handle - probably a silver alloy and the front has a clasp that one opens by carefully pushing down on a prong in the lower half of the clasp. This is a small hand painted wooden okimono of Daikoku – one of the Seven Japanese Household Gods. The figure stands 3 1/2: high x 2 1/2" wide x 2 7/8"Ύ” deep and we date it to the late Edo to Early Meiji period, circa 1850-1895. The figure is in relatively good condition – miscellaneous chips to the paint on the edge of his hat and on the base. The base is probably not the original. This is a nicely rounded globular shaped covered bowl with an underglaze design of karakusa vines with intervals of flowers. The top knopf of the lid has a darker blue geometric design and the bottom rim of the base of the bowl has a band of lappets encircling the base of the bowl.
