A globular jarlet made in underglaze blue and white - dating from the late Ming to early Qing dynasties, circa 1625-1750. The jarlet is decorated with a soft blue underglaze design of blue flowers – the cover glaze has a crackle finish to it. The piece measures 2 ½” high by 2 ¾” diameter at the waist. It is in excellent condition – some kiln grit is on the rim of the base.

A sweet little Japanese Arita dish with a design of a Japanese crane and a pair of scrolls tied together. The dish measures 4 3/4" diameter and is 1 1/1/8" deep. Excellent condition - dates from the late Meiji period, circa 1900 - 1915. The bottom has an unglazed circle that was created in the firing by keeping the piece of the floor of the kiln.

A colorful Japanese cloisonne vase with a large white mum and some small red mums – all atop a profusion of green leaves. The vase measures 6” high and is 3” diameter at the shoulder – a tiny neck. We date the vase to the mid to late Meiji period, circa 1880-1910 – the Golden Age of Japanese cloisonne. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.

This one of the nicest prints in the famous series “One Hundred Aspects of the Moon” (1885-1892)by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. It is entitled “A Fox Admires Her Reflection on a Moonlit Night” and is also called “Full moon in Mushasi”, 1890. The print depicts a fox sitting by a body of water as he looks admiringly at his refection on the water that been cast by a full moon. This is a very nice small Chinese porcelain dish from the late Qing dynasty, circa 1900-1910 - quite possibly earlier. The glaze is a soft celadon color and has a low relief impressed design of a Phoenix bird in the center of the dish. This center phoenix is surrounded by a band of geometric intersecting lines with cloud forms interspersed. The outer rim has a thin chocolate brown glaze. The bottom of the dish is not decorated – just the celadon glaze. The dish measures 3 ½” diameter and is 7/8” ...click for details

This is an example of the earliest Japanese cloisonné. It is interesting because of the shape – the top of the jarlet is a rounded square – which then merges into globular shape all the way to the bottom. The design is that of many small flowers surrounded by tiny tight cloisons – then the top has a design of white cloisons that form a drape of white lappets. The jarlet measures 4” in diameter at its widest and is 2 ¾” high. We date it to the early Meiji period, circa 1870s-1880s. ...click for details

This is an unusually shaped Japanese porcelain sake cup holder known as a Haidai. The top of the haidai is hexagonally shaped and has a low relief design of stylized waves in the classic Japanese style. The base has a slightly rounded bottom but the bottom is very flat so that the cup does not roll around. The glaze has a very faint hint of celadon. This is a Northern Ming celadon dish with a very faintly impressed design of a bird in the center. The top and most of the bottom are glazed in a thick celadon glaze whilst the bottom is mainly unglazed with some spill over of the glaze. The dish measures 7 5/8” diameter and is 1 ¾” deep. The celadon glaze has a crackle finish. It is in excellent condition – one tiny ½” long area on the rim where the glaze did not take. There are two very small brown dots that are firing flaws.
