This is a handsome Japanese studio bud vase with a tan and white swirling crackle glaze around the majority of the middle and lower part of the body. At the top, the swirl pattern ends and a combination of light yellow/gold glaze is seen – on top of which is a small pattern of turquoise glaze. The rim is a rich dark chocolate glaze. The play of the differing patterns and colors have a lovely aesthetic effect. The vase measures 4 ¾” high by 4 ½” diameter at the waist. It is in excellent condition with no chips or restorations. There is a tiny glob of glaze that occurred in the firing. It is not signed or marked. We date the vase to the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925-1950s. |
