An Edo Period Okimono of a Standing Buddha
This tall wooden Buddha dates from the mid to late Edo period, circa 1750-1850. It measures 16” high by 4” wide b 2 ½” deep and is in generally good condition with the major exception that the head has been re-attached with glue at some time in the past.

The piece has superb patina. The hands have quite a bit of wear but are still intact. He stands on a lotus blossom base. Overall the okimono has decades of nicks and scratches from long usage. The face is quite sublime. This Buddha is in the position known as the Abhaya mudra, gesture of reassurance and Varada mudra, gesture of charity.
