| An interesting standing ceramic figure of a samurai in his "off-duty" attire. While it is quite common to find Imari and other ceramics of women, bijen, it is quite unusual to come across a samurai figure such as this one. Made of fine pottery and painted in superb detail, the piece stands 8 3/4" tall, is 4" wide and is 3" deep. There is a hole under his left sleeve where there was once an inserted item - most probably a sword - that piece is long gone now. I estimate this piece dates from the late Meiji period to no later than 1920's. Excellent addition to a collection of Japanese ceramic figurals. | |||||||
