| A beautifully detailed Chinese blue and white bowl dating from the mid to late Ming Dynasty, we believe it dates from the reign of Emperor Jiajing(1522-1566. The underglaze cobalt blue has a very finely executed design of three branches of a fruit tree - we think that the fruit is that of the persimmon. According to ancient Chinese culture, the persimmon is considered a "Blessing Plant", and represents joy to its receiver. In the center of the bowl is a simple mark of two fruit - again believed to be persimmon. On the base there is a complex geometric design in a square which we are unable to date or identify. The bowl measures 5 3/4" diameter at the top - is 2 3/8" high - and is 2 1/4" diameter at the base. Excellent condition with one very small stable hairline on the rim. | |||||||||||
