| A most unusual Japanese woodblock triptych with a design of four geisha in elaborate kimono. The print is executed on three sheets of rice paper that have been glued together at three seams. The unusual aspect of the print is that there is an over-painting in white wash or watercolor that highlights the faces, collars, hands, feet and some details in the kimonos. The print is framed in a simple gold frame with a light brown silk mat. Because of the glass on the front it was not possible to take a photo of the entire piece without a light reflection of the photographer in the center of those two photos. The background paper has some light toning and a couple of minor water stains – otherwise the print is in excellent condition. Framed size is 34” wide by 19 “ high – image size is 29” by 10”. We date it to the early Meiji period, circa 1880-1895. | |||||||||
