| An unusual Japanese bronze seal with a very detailed casting of a Shi Shi temple dog on the top. The Shi Shi is in a standing position with a ball in its hands. ( If this were a 20th century piece one could almost believe that the Shi Shi is preparing to shoot a free throw shot in a basketball game). The Shi Shi stands on a square base that it dropped at the four corners to meet the solid bronze base. On the base there are large characters of the seal – not translated – in which there are remnants of the red paste ink used to stamp papers. The seal measures 3 ¼” high and is 2 ½” diameter at the base. It is in excellent condition with nice old patina. We date it to early to mid Meiji period, circa 1975-1990. | ||||||||||
