| A striking Japanese Kutani vase in an unusual shape with a narrow bottom rising into an almost globular shaped top - then an evert rim. The body of the vase is colorfully decorated with three large flowers - peonies ? - one in white, one in red and one in blue. These are supported by a combination of blue and green leaves surrounded by a geometric design of small circles against a golden yellow ground. On the base is a green mark in a reserve - it translates to "Fuku" meaning Good Luck or Fortune. The vase measures 5" high and is 4 1/2" diameter at the widest part of the top. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. We date it to the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925-1940 - it is possible it could even be as early as late Meiji. | |||||||||||
